What it is
An archaeological study of the earthenware recovered from seventeen Spanish shipwreck sites, from Britain and Bermuda to Florida, Texas, Louisiana and the Caribbean. It covers the colonial trade, each wreck, and detailed analysis of olive jars, tableware and other pottery, with tables, drawings and photographs.
Why it matters
Pottery is one of the main ways archaeologists date and identify a wreck. Marken's olive-jar classification is still a standard reference — useful when a wreck's date or identity rests on artifacts, not just coins.
Who it's for
Specialists and serious collectors working on wreck dating, identity and non-coin artifacts.
